This is how our high-performance greases for extreme demands are created

Industrial plants, machinery, and vehicles have to perform more than ever before today. Extreme temperatures, high mechanical loads, vibrations, and contact with water or corrosive media are just some of the challenges that high-performance greases must withstand. At the same time, efficiency, sustainability, and an extended component service life are becoming increasingly important. As a development partner to industry, we continuously enhance our lubricants – with our customers playing a central role in this process.

Extreme demands on lubricants are not uncommon in practice: whether in the construction industry, agriculture and forestry, or mining – machines and systems often have to operate under extreme conditions.

High temperatures in steel production, freezing conditions during winter operations or corrosive substances in chemical processes call for highly specialised lubricants. Rhenus Lub develops products that can withstand these conditions whilst also increasing the service life and efficiency of components.

What are high-performance greases?

High-performance greases are specialised lubricating greases developed for the most demanding operating conditions. They are characterised by their high load-bearing capacity, thermal stability, and corrosion resistance, offering reliable protection for machinery and components even under extreme conditions.

Particularly in demanding working environments, where adverse weather conditions place heavy strain on machinery, high-performance greases play a key role in ensuring longevity. Their special formulation enables them to meet the demands of modern industrial plants, whilst contributing to sustainability and the conservation of resources. Dr Marco Pfeiffer, Head of Product Management at Rhenus Lub, explains: „Our high-performance greases are specifically designed to maintain their performance under extreme conditions. This means protection against wear, an extended service life for machinery and, ultimately, increased operational efficiency.“

Regardless of the stress machines and components are subjected to by external influences, we supply high-performance greases that impress with their high load-carrying capacity.

Lubricant development starts with customer request

Choosing the right lubricant is crucial to the reliability and efficiency of plant and production processes. Rhenus Lub takes a customer-centred approach: together, we analyse the specific requirements, processes and on-site conditions. This close collaboration forms the basis for the development of bespoke grease solutions.

„When developing new Lubricating greases “Customers usually approach us directly – for example, when a new product line is being planned. Together, we then define the requirements for the components and production processes at an early stage: we contribute our know-how and development expertise. This is how we create lubricants that are perfectly tailored to the respective conditions," explains Dr. Pfeiffer.

Sustainability as an innovation driver

Another important aspect in the development of lubricating greases is the topic of Sustainability. This is firmly integrated into our product development. For example, this is how biodegradable lubricating greases are created, which are ideal for ecologically sensitive areas such as agriculture and forestry. They offer excellent lubrication performance without burdening the environment through loss lubrication or leakage.

„Our sustainable high-performance greases combine environmental compatibility with efficiency. We rely on innovative raw materials and resource-friendly production to offer our customers a future-oriented solution,“ explains Pfeiffer.

This is not just about the products themselves, but also about their contribution to resource conservation: less material wear, longer maintenance cycles, and a reduced CO2 footprint.

A promise of quality that builds trust

To ensure that a high-performance grease performs well not only on paper but also in practice, Rhenus Lub relies on component-specific testing methods. In our in-house laboratory in Mönchengladbach, our product developers, working closely with the sales and product management teams, simulate real-world operating conditions to ensure that the products can withstand even the most extreme demands. These tests provide the assurance that our high-performance greases meet the very highest standards.

A good example of this innovative strength is the development of lubricants that allow for particularly long service lives in application: these greases not only reduce lubricant consumption itself, but also lower maintenance costs through extended lubrication intervals. A good example is the newly developed switch grease. rhenus LSN 04 XT, ..., which resulted in a halving of lubricant-related maintenance costs while maintaining operational safety.
